Ink and Oil on canvas 24″x36″
“The most interesting thing about doing collaborations, is that the final piece is not anything we could imagine doing individually. It’s super interesting where it goes and what it opens up”. In this collaboration, Anika cooked ink out of pomegranate and beets. She used it for the first layers of the painting, and then created an abstract, surreal/lava landscape with oil paint on the ink flow. Kathy added the kids on tin can stilts looking up at a floating majestic balloon. The outlined stilts have shadows. There is a feeling that there are multi layers of reality. It seems to give a glimpse of the existential question, “where do we go when we die?”
