‘Unprecedented’ acrylic and oil on canvas 40″x60″
This painting is a collaboration between artists, Anika Kuntze and Kathy Chang.
A kid is eating a juicy psychedelic strange fruit while surrounded by a shattering, chaotic background. It shows how everything rhythmically falls apart and descends into chaos (e.g. the pandemic) only to give space for the new. Although the kid appears to live in a colorful, dreamlike and playful world, it is also a little threatening. The juicy fruit reminds us of the luscious nurturing aspects of mother earths delights.
Inspired by Russian and Czech kids cartoons from the seventies and eighties surreal shapes are flying in space. Growing up close to the DDR border on the west side in Germany Anika uses fragments of these childhood memories to construct the background.
